SUMMER MISSION TRIP

The Highline Student Ministry is planning a Youth and Family Summer Mission's Trip this year to Pine Ridge in S. Dakota home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The trip will run from July 20th through July 26th. The reservation lies on the southern end of the Badlands, was the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890 and was the home Chief Red Cloud and where Sitting Bull was killed.

Lakota Pine Ridge is the poorest reservation in the United States. The population of Pine Ridge suffers health conditions commonly found in Third World countries, including high mortality ratesdepressionalcoholism, among others. Unemployment on the reservation hovers between 80% and 85%, and 49% of the population live below the federal poverty level.[85] Many of the families have no electricity, telephone, running water, or sewage systems.

This mission trip will provide a great opportunity for our students and their families to experience a culture they have probably not been exposed to and to serve needy people in the name of Christ.
